Final Portfolio Project

Image
Link To Final Portfolio After three years of learning about coding languages and front end development at Infomation Technology High School, it is finally time to leave to pursue higher education. This project is meant to be an accumulation of my work from the last three years, but also be a way to present myself and my work to future employers. I really enjoyed this project because now I feel very confident in creating an appealing website. I used a lot of CSS for this page in comparison to my other labs and projects.

WBL Workshop #5: Interview skills

In this workshop, we worked on our interview skills and there is no better way to practice then to actually do interviews. Therefore, we conducted mock interviews with some volunteer teachers and school staff coming to be the interviewers. Each round we were to conduct a new interview with the volunteer and then they would give feedback on what we need to improve for our next interview. One of the things I needed to improve on is that I fidget and play with hands a lot during an interview.

WBL Workshop #4: RIASEC

For this workshop, we were discussing our future career goals and if we don't have any then there were different things we could do to maybe start having an idea of what we want to do in the future, AKA college. The main thing we did was take quizzes that were supposed to tell us about ourselves and using those results find out what career could be for us. Alh=though the idea was good, there were too many quizzes and surveys to really get a good idea, nor did we have time to reflect on what we want to become. Nevertheless, this workshop is very beneficial to those who are still wondering what to do in the future.

WBL Workshop 2

For this workshop, we learned about resumes and the different techniques and strategies to make sure our resumes pop out to interviewers. Some of the tips they gave us were that resumes is that generally resumes should only be one page long, easy to read, use a standard font, and should always use proper grammar. An exercise we did in order to begin thinking about our resumes is to think about our hards and soft skills in order to have a section that lists all our skills. Hard skills I wrote were knowing Dreamweaver and Photoshop. Some of my soft skills were being organized, good communication and fluency in Spanish. This WBL workshop was very important to learn how to further improve my resume

WBL Workshop #1

During this first WBL Workshop, we were given an introduction to what WBL, the different requirements, and what exactly we will need to do in order to graduate with a CTE diploma. The requirements included mainly confidentiality forms, employable profile, and discipline policy that have to be filled every year. The different experiences we will get with WBL are workshops, events, guest speakers, job shadowing, and internships. All of these requirements have to be completed and uploaded on Jupiter grades in order for it to count which means that all the work we did the last four years will have to be documented. This is the third time I have been in this specific workshop, so I should be almost done.

CTE Guest Speaker 2

Image
We had a few guest speakers today which were Alex Eacker from CodeHS and Andrew Otto from Wikipedia. Honestly, it was a good opportunity to ask questions to successful people in the field most of us want to pursue in the future. One of the questions asked why Wikipedia asked for donations and it was because Wikipedia does not want to bother its users with ads. Mr. Eacker presented his company, Code HS, and the new way they are trying to implement teaching computer science in schools and as well as for students to teach themselves about computer science.

CTE Guest Speaker 1

We were visited by Joseph Maseda of Care Point Health on December seventh and he taught us about cybercrime and cybersecurity. Although personally, I am not interested in cybersecurity, there were a handful of people in the class that had cybersecurity as a potential career/job. Mr. Maseda gave a presentation on cybersecurity and told us that it is a set of techniques used to protect our personal information and the integrity of networks and programs.

Power Skills: Synopsis

Image
How has this course prepared me for my future employment? This course has highlighted the different skills employers search for when hiring people. They look for people who conduct themselves in a professional manner, prepared for an interview, communicate effectively with others, show critical thinking & problem solving, are able to work with others well and understand the importance of networking. I believe I truly understand how to make myself a more appealing candidate for a job and when you are competing with others for the same job, being unique is essential. But this course not only showed me how to get a job but also the manner I should conduct myself on the job.

Power Skills: Teamwork

Image
What skills are required to work with others as a cohesive team for a common goal? One of the most important skills when it comes to working as a team is communication. Being able to effectively communicate and plan out your task will make sure there aren't conflicts within the team. Collaboration is also essential because you have to know how to work with others which means knowing you have to complete your part and respect your peers. Being able to plan and bring the best out of your team is also a huge skill needed. having a plan the entire team agrees with will make sure there aren't any problems and making sure that each person's tasks is something they can manage is important so that person doesn't feel overwhelmed and in the end the project will end up as a success.

Power Skills: Interview skills

Links to both videos: youtu.be/dY2mRM4i6tY youtu.be/A4YCd01otw8 What do you think about choice C? Choice C seems to have no understanding of what the job entails and its responsibilities. It shows that she had not prepared previously her responses and overall shows a lack of empathy. She could not answer any question completely and seemed as if she could not think for herself. Overall a horrible candidate for any job. Compared to the Next interview: This interview showed that she truly cared about the interview, she was able to answer each question perfectly and give reasoning. She also knew how to give specific evidence about her skills that connect to the actual job. It also shows that the job is truly for her because it aligns with her interests.

Power Skills: Networking

Image
How am I networking now? How do you know you are networking with the right people? The main way students are networking is through school, their friends. People may not realize it but the people you go to school with have their own ambitions and may go on to a successful career that you may benefit from. Another way I have networked is through my internship, I built a good relationship with my employer and she even offered me a job. Career fairs are another great way to network because there will be people from your field of interest that have connections and may lead you to a great opportunity. The people you want to network with or those you see are passionate about what they are doing because it gives you faith that the person will be benefiting you. People you see that are successful or have connections are great people to network with because if you impress them then they may just recommend you to one of those connections. in life, it isn't so much what you know, but wh...

Power Skill: Communication

Image
Why is it important to communicate your ideas clearly verbally or in written form? Communication is important because, without it, there would be no understanding between people. Being able to effectively communicate with people will make sure that your ideas are heard and overall leade to a lot less frustration. In the workforce being able to communicate leads to many different opportunities. Everybody has ideas that are worth being heard and in the workforce, those ideas will show to the employer that you have the potential to be a great employee.

Power Skills: Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

Image
Why are Problem Solving and Critical Thinking valuable skills as web designers? No matter what you do problems are going to arise, it is just how life works and what truly makes you a person people will seek out is just how good you can solve those problems. For web designers, our problems are related to designing and programming. Being able to solve an issue with the code or when something isn't working properly being able to find a new way to solve it. Problem Solving and Critical Thinking are linked to creativity which is essential to a web designer. None of our ideas come out of thin air, because of our creativity we can come up with amazing ideas and solve any problem that may occur during the creation process.

Power Skills: Professionalism

Image
How can you show professionalism in school? Professionalism in school is very similar to professionalism in the workplace in terms of expectation. You are expected to show up on time and be active which means to participate and when you see something that needs to be done, you do it. Another way to show professionalism is by treating teachers and your peers with respect at all times. Not only is arriving on time for each class important, but it also matters that you take notes, hand in homework on time, and participate. Personal hygiene is also a part of professionalism, dressing appropriately and making sure your hygiene is good. All of this will leave a good impression on your teachers who may return the favor in ways such as recommendations and internship opportunities.
