Emoti-con with Seminar

Image
One of my group projects was selected to be a part of the emoti-con expo which was surprising to me, but nevertheless, I am proud of my group and me for making that far. Emoti-con is a showcase for young designers, makers, and technologist who show promise for the future of technology. Apart, from presenting my project there were other parts of the expo that included guest speakers such as a 12-year-old hacker and entrepreneur that founded her own company, Girls who Hack. She is truly a prodigy because she started learning how to hack at such a young age and started a company that promotes hacking to girls trying to diversify the field. Other events included the raffle and the showcase where people walked around to see all the projects, as well as judges. Although my project didn't win any awards, nor did I win the raffle, emoti-con was a great experience.

New York Hall of Science with Seminar

This past Friday, May 17, I had the opportunity to visit the New York Hall of Science as part of its annual STEM Career Expo. It was a free event where participants can hear from STEM leaders as well as network with them. Some of the speakers were Brendan Chan from Google and Kurt Young, a creative director from Mokuni Games. Besides the speaker, there were many organizations with booths to promote their programs such as the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers that gave information on an upcoming scholarship. At the end of the program, there were demonstrations of scientific research. I do not remember the actual scientific details, but one demonstration involved putting water, dry ice, and ping-pong balls into a trash can. After a few seconds, the trash can exploded causing the balls to fly everywhere which captivated the audience. Overall, the Career Expo was a great experience.

Spring Project

Link to Project:  This is the second to last project for my high school years and it is a 20-page website about New York City tourist attractions that is supposed to culminate all that I have learned over the past three years. I believe I did a good job considering how big of a feat which was in front of me. I chose to do a website about NY because I believed I knew enough to do it, but it was surprising to see just how much I learned while doing the project. On the actual technical side of the project, I do believe it reflects what I have learned over the past few years, especially if it is compared to my first webpage. There is a sticky nav on each page that where the user can easily maneuver to any page and the layout is similar to this blog page with one main column and a side column. However, I do wish I had more time to add more CSS to the page because while I was doing my research I stumbled upon a page with very nice CSS and I wanted to mimic it in my page, but there wa...
