Final Portfolio Project

Image
Link To Final Portfolio After three years of learning about coding languages and front end development at Infomation Technology High School, it is finally time to leave to pursue higher education. This project is meant to be an accumulation of my work from the last three years, but also be a way to present myself and my work to future employers. I really enjoyed this project because now I feel very confident in creating an appealing website. I used a lot of CSS for this page in comparison to my other labs and projects.

WBL Workshop #5: Interview skills

In this workshop, we worked on our interview skills and there is no better way to practice then to actually do interviews. Therefore, we conducted mock interviews with some volunteer teachers and school staff coming to be the interviewers. Each round we were to conduct a new interview with the volunteer and then they would give feedback on what we need to improve for our next interview. One of the things I needed to improve on is that I fidget and play with hands a lot during an interview.

WBL Workshop #4: RIASEC

For this workshop, we were discussing our future career goals and if we don't have any then there were different things we could do to maybe start having an idea of what we want to do in the future, AKA college. The main thing we did was take quizzes that were supposed to tell us about ourselves and using those results find out what career could be for us. Alh=though the idea was good, there were too many quizzes and surveys to really get a good idea, nor did we have time to reflect on what we want to become. Nevertheless, this workshop is very beneficial to those who are still wondering what to do in the future.

WBL Workshop 2

For this workshop, we learned about resumes and the different techniques and strategies to make sure our resumes pop out to interviewers. Some of the tips they gave us were that resumes is that generally resumes should only be one page long, easy to read, use a standard font, and should always use proper grammar. An exercise we did in order to begin thinking about our resumes is to think about our hards and soft skills in order to have a section that lists all our skills. Hard skills I wrote were knowing Dreamweaver and Photoshop. Some of my soft skills were being organized, good communication and fluency in Spanish. This WBL workshop was very important to learn how to further improve my resume

WBL Workshop #1

During this first WBL Workshop, we were given an introduction to what WBL, the different requirements, and what exactly we will need to do in order to graduate with a CTE diploma. The requirements included mainly confidentiality forms, employable profile, and discipline policy that have to be filled every year. The different experiences we will get with WBL are workshops, events, guest speakers, job shadowing, and internships. All of these requirements have to be completed and uploaded on Jupiter grades in order for it to count which means that all the work we did the last four years will have to be documented. This is the third time I have been in this specific workshop, so I should be almost done.

CTE Guest Speaker 2

We had a few guest speakers today which were Alex Eacker from CodeHS and Andrew Otto from Wikipedia. Honestly, it was a good opportunity to ask questions to successful people in the field most of us want to pursue in the future. One of the questions asked why Wikipedia asked for donations and it was because Wikipedia does not want to bother its users with ads. Mr. Eacker presented his company, Code HS, and the new way they are trying to implement teaching computer science in schools and as well as for students to teach themselves about computer science.

We were visited by Joseph Maseda of Care Point Health on December seventh and he taught us about cybercrime and cybersecurity. Although personally, I am not interested in cybersecurity, there were a handful of people in the class that had cybersecurity as a potential career/job. Mr. Maseda gave a presentation on cybersecurity and told us that it is a set of techniques used to protect our personal information and the integrity of networks and programs.
