What Does a CTE Diploma Mean To Me

According to the New York City Department of Education's website, the minimum credit requirements to graduate with a regents diploma are:

  • 8 credits in English
  • 8 credits in Social Studies

    • 4 credits in Global History
    • 2 credits in US History
    • 1 credit in Participation in Government
    • 1 credit in Economic
  • 6 credits in Math
    • 2 credits in advance Math
  • 6 credits in Science
    • 2 credits in any Life Science
    • 2 credits in any physical science
    • 2 credits in any life science or physical science
  • 2 credits in a foreign language
  • 4 credits in physical educaion
  • 1 credit in health
  • 2 credits in art education
  • 7 credits in electives
Then there are the exam requirements that include a score of 65 or above in the following regents: ELA, any math, any social studies, any science, and any additional regents exam.

The difference between a regents diploma and an advance regents diploma is that instead of one math regents, you must take three, also two science regents. You must also take a LOTE exam. The difference in credit requirements is instead of 2 credits in foreign language, it is 6, and only 3 elective credits.

Then to obtain a CTE Endorsement in either diploma the requirements are 7 CTE credits, 1 Career and Financial Management credit, 2 AP Computer Science Principle credits, 1 Industry Exam (Adobe Dreamweaver), and a meaningful work bade learning experience.

Although I no longer wish to pursue a career in computer science, my major is still related to science and technology so having this endorsement means that I took the initiative to gain a foundation in the field of science and I even learned how to code. Also this endorsement means that I stayed committed for 3 years of high school: I did all the necessary work and earned the endorsement. The unique benefits of obtaining the CTE endorsement through the Web Design Academy is that I could gain 6 CUNY credits and show colleges that I am ready to take college level courses.
